Plastic Pollution: We Can Make a Difference

Currently, we are living in the 21st century, where plastic is overproduced, over purchased, and overused more than ever. We, humans, are carelessly using plastic goods and wastefully throwing them away. We are acting as if plastic is made from leaves and it will decompose easily once thrown away. Unfortunately, it is not. Plastic takes millions of years to decompose. It is not biodegradable. Think about being reborn for 10 times, and the plastic you use will still be here. If you think that plastic is strong, then you’re not thinking for the good of mother earth. Organic materials, like fruit peels, decomposes and act as fertilizer for plants, but plastic cannot take that role. It takes the role of a destroyer.

I think people are not aware of how plastic pollution can be closely related to everyone. If a person buys something from 7-11 everyday, then we are at least contributing to plastic pollution 365 days per year. The cycle of plastic pollution is on-going because of us. If we stop the cashier from giving us plastic bag, then we are reducing the amount of plastic by 1 bag per day. It makes a difference! Instead, we should carry cloth bags that can be reused numerous times. I assure you, using cloth bags definitely makes you look a lot cooler!

Can you imagine? The U.S spends 8 billion dollars on plastic alone each year. Think about how that money can be used instead if we were to reduce the amount of plastic we use. Not only will it benefit producers, but it will affect every individual on this Earth as well.

Let’s help the environment by using cloth bags that can be reused, and by doing that we will also reduce the amount of plastic waste. It can definitely bear the weight of objects; unlike plastic bags which will rip apart and decompose the way mother nature intended!
