Fifty Shade of Blue

What is the most important thing in you life? I’ll tell ya, it is not your girl friend, not your boyfriend, or even your family and friend, or even the erotic movie “ Fifty Shade of Gray”. Lacking these things will not kill you! Repeat, lacking these will not kill you. The things that are fundamental to life and will kill you if you don’t have them are: oxygen you breath in every single second, water you drink every single day, and food you eat every single day. As my heading foreshadow, I will be discussing water in this blog.

  • There are 7 billions people in the world, but 1 billion don’t have access to clean water.
  • 1 out of 7 people do not have clean water to drink from.
  • 1 burger = 6 gallons of water.
  • 70% of water sources are for agriculture.
  • Each day there are 4500 kid, who died because of water related disease.
  • Water related disease have killed more people than any war.


People think of water as limitless, but the dark truth is that it is not. We are using water like it will never run out. What we need to think is that there is only 3 percent of the world’s water is freshwater which we need to share with 7 billion more people who live on the same earth. One perfect way we could do to save water is by consuming less meat. As you know, most water is wasted for raising animals and agricultural use. Change from a burgers to salads, and you would save more than 5 gallons of water, and get much healthier in the process. Humans have brains to think, so think.

Racism in Ferguson

On August 9, an unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown, was shot by a white police officer, Darren Wilson, in Ferguson, a suburb of St. Louis. From recovered video footage of what happened, Brown and his acquaintance, Dorian Johnson, robbed a liquor store. After officer Wilson had arrived, Brown resisted to be subdued and charged toward Officer Wilson. Officer Wilson then fired 12 shots ( 2 from his car and 10 more down the street) at Johnson.   
A trial was conducted and a decision was made not to indict officer Wilson, setting off a wave of anger among people that gathered outside Ferguson’s police department. The situation grew more intense as night wore on. Multiple reports of looting and setting fires were made in several business.

Michael Brown’s death prompted weeks of protesting and looting that eventually forced Gov. Jay Nixon to deploy members of the MIssouri National Guard to assist the police in response to the chaos that occurred in Ferguson.
What really angered me off is the fact that people reacted to the shooting out of Michael Brown with violence and madness. A kid got shot by a white police officer and suddenly stores were looted and fires were ignited on cars, seriously? To solve violence, we must use violence? Protesters said this is an act against racism committed by a police officer, but what does it have to do with looting stores and committing multiple damages toward infrasture? This riot basically supports the stereotypes of black people made by other races. To fight for justice and equality, one must recognize equality in the society first before fighting for it.
Would Martin Luther King Jr. react this way? Would Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, and everyone else who fight for equality and justice react this way?

What happened in Ferguson is a great example of exactly how not to fight against racism. What ALSO angered me is the fact that Officer Darren Wilson didn’t choose the non-lethal method to take down Michael Brown. Aren’t tasers issued to police officers? Officer Wilson could have easily tased Michael Brown, but he chose not to. Talk about police brutality. I think the way people react these days through violence instead of diplomacy.

Global Issue: Racism

Racism, by definition, is the belief of some racial groups are superior than others. Racism occurs not only through racial discrimination, but also religious discrimination.Throughout history, humans have used racism or discrimination as a motivation to drive people to fight for their cause. It can encourage fear and hatred in others during times of conflict and economic downturns.
Racism is a dreadful belief that ignores the fact that all humans belong to the same race, Homo sapiens. Yet, humans are unable to embrace the uniqueness of various ethnic groups. We have this fear and dislike of foreigners simply because they are different from us or because they are viewed as being inferior.
Conflicts motivated by racism have occurred throughout history. Nazi prejudice towards Jews caused for over nine million people to be killed.  Wars between European settlers and Native Americans caused for almost an entire race of people to be extinguished. Racism led to African Americans to be enslaved by whites in America.  
Racism causes conflicts that are happening right now too: the Aborigines have lost most of their lands today and are experiencing extreme prejudice in Australia, Chinese students are forbid to access higher education in Malaysia , Israelis and Palestinians antagonism etc.


Not only must we address this issue to nations' governments, but also make awareness of this issue to the public. Only through collaboration and understanding of individuals’ cultural backgrounds will we ever achieve peace and prosperity.




Recent shootouts in Ottawa that took the life of Corporal Nathan Cirillo by a member of ISIS, the Islamic terrorist group, have raised concerns for the safety and security of people living in Muslim-Canadian communities. Even though the shooter, Michael Zehaf- Bibeau, was an ex-Canadian and had no connection to these communities, Middle Easterners have been targeted for vengeance because of what he did. 
Certain groups of people view the rest of Muslim population as potential terrorists. These groups have been targeting Muslim populations through vandalizing and sending threatening messages.
People must understand that for what one did, the rest have nothing to do with it. Just because one middle-eastern terrorist killed a canadian soldier doesn't make the rest of Middle- Easterners terrorists too.
If your cousin kills a man, is that your fault?
