Fifty Shades of Blue

Fifty Shade of Blue

What is the most important thing in you life? I’ll tell ya, it is not your girl friend, not your boyfriend, or even your family and friend, or even the erotic movie “ Fifty Shade of Gray”. Lacking these things will not kill you! Repeat, lacking these will not kill you. The things that are fundamental to life and will kill you if you don’t have them are: oxygen you breath in every single second, water you drink every single day, and food you eat every single day. As my heading foreshadow, I will be discussing water in this blog.

  • There are 7 billions people in the world, but 1 billion don’t have access to clean water.
  • 1 out of 7 people do not have clean water to drink from.
  • 1 burger = 6 gallons of water.
  • 70% of water sources are for agriculture.
  • Each day there are 4500 kid, who died because of water related disease.
  • Water related disease have killed more people than any war.

People think of water as limitless, but the dark truth is that it is not. We are using water like it will never run out. What we need to think is that there is only 3 percent of the world’s water is freshwater which we need to share with 7 billion more people who live on the same earth. One perfect way we could do to save water is by consuming less meat. As you know, most water is wasted for raising animals and agricultural use. Change from a burgers to salads, and you would save more than 5 gallons of water, and get much healthier in the process. Humans have brains to think, so think.

The world’s biggest animal slaughter: The Gadhimai festival

Perhaps you are an animal lover. If so, then this is very good news for you, Not. In New Delhi, every five years there is a sacrifice, Not just an everyday sacrifice for food, but of the slaughter of thousands of animals - buffaloes, to be exact. This so called “festival” lasts for eighteen days. More than 5000 buffaloes have been killed brutally for the cause. The Hindu’s believe that “Gadhimai”, the goddess of power, can only be pleased with animal blood. Hindu devotees from all corners of India travel to Nepal with their animals which can be a male calf, pigeons, sheeps, rats, chickens, pigs or goats to offer it to the goddess, However, the bigger and more expensive the animals, the more the goddess will be pleased, they believe.
The majority of the devotees are from the neighbouring states such as Bihar, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. When your wish is granted, you have to sacrifice another animal, That is the rule. Every year there is a struggle for the animal right’s organizations and the devotees to prevent the killing of these animals, The lucky ones survive, however, while the unlucky ones are left to walk the reaper’s road. Approximately 70% of the animals being slaughtered in Nepal are exported from different parts of India. The Supreme Court of India passed an order directing the Union of India to stop the illegal movement of animals for sacrifice across the border from India to Nepal.

Although the ARO and the government tries to save as much animals as possible there are too many trying to kill them that saving their lives are as hard as plucking stars from the sky.

The Importance of Biodiversity

First of all, what is biodiversity? Why is it important to our environment? Well, biodiversity simply means the enormous diversity of plant and animal species and different ecosystems on the planet. From what I researched, there are almost ten million species of plants, animals and microorganisms on the planet and deserts, rain-forests and coral reefs are also part of a biologically diverse earth.
We humans must maintain biodiversity in order to keep our planet in balance. It matters if there aren’t so many species because biodiversity helps ecosystem productivity to grow rapidly and healthily. Each species, no matter how small or subtle it is, it all has an important role for its environment. A large number of plant species in the oceans are important food for fish so without plant species, many species will go extinct. It also maintains natural sustainability for all different kinds of species in the ocean. Humans should start doing something to protect these species. Human activities has been causing massive extinctions as well as global warming. Global warming is actually one of the most influential factor of biodiversity and massive extinctions.
Preserving species is not only important for other species in the ecosystem but it also cease global warming which also help human to live longer. In my conclusion, human has an important role of protecting the only earth, our only home.

Animals Extinction

Animals Extinction

Animals are a vital part of our ecosystem. They are critical for a balanced and healthy ecosystem, and therefore, are vital to a healthy biosphere and our environment. For the 3.5 billion years that life has existed on earth, species of plants and animals have come and gone. More successful types of animals replace less successful types of animals by survival of the fittest.  However, now animals are going extinct faster than ever before besides the five mass extinctions on record which were caused by transient cataclysmic events that have occurred, such as an asteroid impact.

As the human population increases, the number of animals decrease and go extinct. Examples of animals that are already extinct due to human activity are the Dodo bird and Tasmanian Tiger. Extinction occurs naturally, but human activity has dramatically increased the rate of extinction. Due to man-made causes, the current rate of extinction is thousands of times greater than it would be naturally. Shouldn’t we do something to protect these endangered animals?

According to the National Geographic, extinction rates are difficult to calculate because nobody knows exactly how many species are in the world. However, scientists identified that about 1.9 million animals exist on the Earth today, and over millions that have not even been discovered yet. Some estimates are as high as 10 million animal species! Also, according to their study, at least 450,000 plants species are exist.

Animals play an important roles in an ecosystem. Especially in our lives. One of the main causes of animal extinction are caused by human activity. As the human population increases, the animals extinction rates will increase exponentially due to our greater need for resources and energy from fossil fuels that will ultimately warm our atmosphere and damage animal habitats. Therefore, we need to protect these endangered animals.

Arctic fox endangered

The arctic fox is a carnivore that lives on the land. Arctic foxes are most commonly found in the Northern hemisphere where the weather and climate are cold. They are found in the polar region. Arctic foxes feed on small animals such as rabbit, lemmings, fish, seals, birds, and polar bear’s leftovers. When there is a scarcity of food resources, then the arctic foxes  becomes vulnerable. The population of the arctic fox is around a hundred thousand individuals.

Global warming changes the food chain of the arctic animals, causing the arctic foxes to have trouble finding food and surviving. The arctic fox are being hunted by humans because of their valuable fur. Hunters hunt arctic fox because arctic fox’s fur is very warm and aesthetically pleasing. Arctic fox’s fur is better than arctic wolf’s fur and polar bear’s fur. The World Wildlife Association  is now stopping the hunting of the arctic fox. World wildlife association is having a fundraise.People around the world donates money to the association giving it the ability to set up patrols to protect the wildlife in the arctic. If the hunting continues, then the arctic fox would be very likely to be endangered and possibly go extinct.

It is abnormal to take parts of animals to fulfill our satisfaction. We should not hunt arctic foxes because it is abnormal to take what belongs to them. Arctic foxes pose no threat to humans in the wild. We should treat them better so they won't go endangered or extinct. Arctic foxes are considered as one of the keystone specie in the arctic region. If the arctic fox goes extinct, then there will be a collapse and alternation in the food web in the arctic.

The inuits are hunting the arctic fox for fur trading. The inuits use the skin of the arctic as coats that keep them warm. I think the inuits should replace fur coats with other animal friendly coats. Using feather coat would be better than using a fox fur coat.

ENDANGERED ANIMALS

ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Over recent years, human population have been dramatically increasing. The bolstering size of the population is taking up too much space! We are gradually overflowing into animal habitats, while causing them to suffer space loss. Though animals have been on Earth longer than humans, our superior status on the ecosystem pyramid allows us to force them out of their homes, ruin their beloved families, take their food, and make them scared to live with us. It is no joke that one beautiful hit can instantly kill one creature, or sometimes even two. If animals could die this easily, then EXTINCTION is can occur very easily.

Species of plants and animals have continuously come and gone for approximately 3.5 billion years. Remember what Darwin said about survival of the fittest? Darwin revealed that the process of evolution causes the more successful types of animals to replace the less successful ones. In fact, scientists estimate that for every species alive today, ten thousand of its primitive relatives have become extinct.

Furthermore, about 38 million acres of forest are projected to be cut down during 2014! Imagine how vast 38 million acres is! It is about the size of Algeria. That would cause even more animals to suffer. Whatever we are doing is only providing us with short term luxuries and is unknowingly harming our future generations.
