LOVE IS IN THE AIR

LOVE IS IN THE AIR

To humans, the most crucial thing we need in order to survive is oxygen, the air we breath. Can you live a day without food? Can you live a day without water? Can you live a day without air? I hope not, because it is just impossible. In this world, there are tons and tons of global issues; things we cause, and things we need to solve. One question I always have is which one is the vital one. Is it Human rights? Is it Feminism? Once I made up my mind, I know that what we need to save first are the trees, because if we don’t, then we cannot live. I think we should all work together into solving one problem; otherwise, nothing will be solved.

In each year, a forest as big as Panama are being torn down. In each year, a tree as old as all your ancestors ages added up are being cut, and burned, and made so that you could use it once and throw it away carelessly. And in the next 25 years, 28,000 species might be gone, some of which you have never seen before. Forests are like our lungs; they absorb carbon and release oxygen which is the most abundant compound for lives. It is plain - trees are important, we destroy trees, trees are what we need save, and trees are the ones that save our life.

Common Causes of Deforestation

  1. Land for housing and urbanization
  2. Harvesting timber for paper and tissue
  3. Plantations for cash crops
  4. Land use for ranching

Interesting Video

Solving deforestation is really easy. One is to stop cutting down trees, two is to plant trees, and three is to “JUST DO IT.” Forests are like lungs of our world, and by constantly destroying them are like destroying ourselves.  We all have power,  If only the power of our two hands and two feet are use to build rather than destroy and used for caring rather than destroying. I really want to know what our world would be like in the future where greed is less important to us than good.

MASS EXTINCTION : DEFORESTATION

Okay, it seems like we and the animals that live on this planet are going to die soon, but NO ONE CARES. It’s not a big deal at all that the forest now only covers 30% of the planet. It’s not a big deal at all that our forests are being been cut down 7.3 million hectares each year. Some of you reading this blog may shrug and say, “How much is that anyway?”
Well…. A LOT! 7.3 million hectares is actually almost the size of Panama!! If we don’t do something soon, we can kiss our current planet goodbye and maybe move to live on the smallest planet, Pluto. (Actually, Pluto’s not a planet, but whatever.)

For some of you who got lost into this rant and don’t have a clue what I am talking about, then allow me to clarify. Deforestation means clearing large amounts of forest, and we mostly cleared the forests because of agriculture. Farmers cut down trees in order to provide more space for planting crops and grazing livestock. Deforestation leads to habitat loss and the extinction of many species. Since 70% of the animals in this world live in the forest, this is very critical that we preserve them.

Deforestation also causes climate change. The soil is usually moist, but with trees out of the picture, there won’t be any trees protecting the soil from the sun and preventing erosion. Dry soil increases the probability of flooding and inability to farm properly. Trees help absorb greenhouse gases; therefore cutting down trees will cause greenhouse gases concentrations in the atmosphere increase, further contributing to global warming.

Currently, there has been really depressing media attention regarding the deforestation. The size of the Amazon rainforest has dropped 18% during the past 12 months. 4,848 square kilometers were cleared between August 2013 to July 2014. Lentini, the Brazilian coordinator for the Amazon program for the World Wide Fund for Nature, wants deforestation in Brazil to be reduced to 3,900 square kilometers per year by 2020. Hopefully, we all can help contribute to the changes even if it’s little. Little changes are better than no changes at all, right? :)  If you want to have a long life, want to see your children grow, want to see your their smiles, then you should start doing something to preserve Mother Nature. Today, you are lucky to live and have your parents see you grow, but will your children have the same privilege?

MASS EXTINCTION: WHALING

Stop being ignorant, BAKA!!!!!! Whales are becoming extinct as we continue to hunt whales. Extinction is when a species ceases to exist on Earth.  Currently, we do not have the technology to recover the species that has been brought to extinction, and we will never have that technology.  Commercial hunting of whales has significantly reduced whale populations and has brought some to be classified as threatened or endangered under The Endangered Species Act of 1973.  Despite this, over two-thousand whales are being hunted per year by countries such as Norway and Japan.  Norway continues to hunt whales despite objections from the International Watch Company (IWC) against whaling. Japan continues to hunt whales under the pretense that it is being done for scientific research against mandates set by the IWC (International Whaling Commission). “We urge Japan to abide by the decision of the IWC and to refrain from launching more hunts outside of the process set up today,” said WWF’s Aimee Leslie. “If Japan truly wants to advance whale conservation as it says it does, then it should not circumvent these new IWC rules.”
Whale hunting needs to stop because it is damaging ecosystems in many
ways. First, when whales die, they become a food source for others species that are vital for a healthy marine ecosystems. Whale poop leads to the decrease of the carbon in the atmosphere by providing nutrients for phytoplankton and oceanic plants that convert dissolved carbon dioxide to sugars, thus reducing atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations. Sperm whale poop helps expand the growth of phytoplankton which increasing dissolved oxygen concentrations in the ocean, allowing for marine animals to breath. Whales also help the growth of phytoplankton, which helps other consumers that feed on phytoplankton as well.
So, in conclusion, DO NOT EAT WHALES OR SUPPORT WHALING!!!!! Whaling is cruel, and that is the bottom line. Can’t you guys just domestic livestock and poultry? WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE WHALES? DON’T YOU HAVE ANY ETHICS????
