Perhaps you are an animal lover. If so, then this is very good news for you, Not. In New Delhi, every five years there is a sacrifice, Not just an everyday sacrifice for food, but of the slaughter of thousands of animals - buffaloes, to be exact. This so called “festival” lasts for eighteen days. More than 5000 buffaloes have been killed brutally for the cause. The Hindu’s believe that “Gadhimai”, the goddess of power, can only be pleased with animal blood. Hindu devotees from all corners of India travel to Nepal with their animals which can be a male calf, pigeons, sheeps, rats, chickens, pigs or goats to offer it to the goddess, However, the bigger and more expensive the animals, the more the goddess will be pleased, they believe.
The majority of the devotees are from the neighbouring states such as Bihar, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. When your wish is granted, you have to sacrifice another animal, That is the rule. Every year there is a struggle for the animal right’s organizations and the devotees to prevent the killing of these animals, The lucky ones survive, however, while the unlucky ones are left to walk the reaper’s road. Approximately 70% of the animals being slaughtered in Nepal are exported from different parts of India. The Supreme Court of India passed an order directing the Union of India to stop the illegal movement of animals for sacrifice across the border from India to Nepal.

Although the ARO and the government tries to save as much animals as possible there are too many trying to kill them that saving their lives are as hard as plucking stars from the sky.
