END POVERTY!!

Interesting facts about Poverty:
-->Approximately 790mil people in the developing world are still chronically undernourished, almost 2/3 of whom reside in Asia and Pacific

-->For the 1.9 billion children:
640mil without shelter
400mil with no safe water
270mil with no health services

-->A mere 12 percent of the world’s population uses 85 percent of its water, and these 12 percent do not live in the Third World.

-->Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.

Article(reflection):

There is a high level of child poverty in the affluent Bay Area. A minimum wage hike to $10.10 would significantly help end child poverty. But it would economically benefit single young mothers and their children living in poverty. Most Americans’ thoughts of Silicon Valley jobs are “champagne wishes and caviar dreams.” It has the highest rate wage in California. Families can't afford to raise their kids by being paid better wages with just a modest tax increase - chump change for the white collared workers in Silicon Valley. San Francisco has a local minimum wage of $8.50 an hour. The UC research group claimed the 26% increase will help the poor with no loss of employment or hours worked. The wage was supposed to have a positive impact, but back in 2003, the the 26% minimum wage increase served as a slap in the face to restaurant industry workers. The future is grim for these downtrodden workers trying to make ends meet with minimum wage.
