To use or not to use? That is the question.

Plastic was created in the mid 1800s. It later became popular in the 20th and 21th centuries. Creating plastic is easy, but recycling it is pretty hard. Why? Because we don’t know where the plastic waste is sent. Plastic had been thrown everywhere. We can see plastic bags flying around on the streets and floating in the ocean. We have produced too much plastic, and now it’s polluting the ocean and land.

The chemical in plastic bags, “BPA”, is very harmful to humans. BPA is not only harmful to humans, but is also harmful to animals on land and the sea. BPA is a toxic chemical that can cause cancers and tumors in our body. Once BPA flows into freshwater, then the water will be contaminated.

Many people thinks that recycling plastic is good and safe, but it is recycling has its share of problems. Also, recycling all of the plastic waste in the whole world is unrealistic. We don’t know who is recycling it and where will it be recycled. Recycling plastic is good, but we have to use a lot energy to recycle it. The only way to do that is to burn more coal and fossil fuels. In my opinion, the best way to stop plastic pollution is to reduce the amount of plastic usage.

Recently, California’s government has decided to ban single use plastic bags. I think the California’s government made the right decision. Why? If plastic bags are banned, then there will be less plastic pollution. So the best way to reduce the plastic pollution is to reduce the amount of plastic usage!
