Losing Nemo

Because of overfishing, we won't have the need to "find nemo" anymore, because we're losing nemo.

You may think that billions of fish are being killed every year, for the purpose of humans. Unfortunately, that number has increased into trillions. An estimation of 0.97-2.7 trillion wild fish are caught globally. This amount does not include fish that are illegally captured. Imagine how much larger the value will be if it was included! If we are to continue the rate that we are going, then all the world’s fisheries would end by 2048. By today, the Chilean Sea Bass and Bluefin Tuna species have already collapsed. It’s sad to know that a 200-year old Chilean Sea Bass has been served to amuse people who have money to spend. If we do not even feel the slightest empathy for all the lives we are taking, then 80% of those souls the ocean covered will vanish. Our future generations will have nothing left to see. In the end, as always, we start with ourselves in order to make a difference. Spread the word!

Poem dedicated to overfishing:
“Choice”
You, me, them,
we’re all living things.
With fins or noses,
we’re still the same.
With tails or legs,
we struggle to survive.
With hair or scales,
we react to harm.
But our lives are different,
we are treated differently.
We never were slaughtered like sand-eels,
100 million a year,
just to become a satisfaction on a plate.
We never were murdered like anchovies,
1.3 trillion a year,
just to transform into oil.
These numbers don’t disappear,
they stay,
they continue to increase,
unless we stop.
The question is,
are we willing to?
